Know what no one wants to talk about? THIS: PEARSON, THE TESTING - TopicsExpress

Know what no one wants to talk about? THIS: PEARSON, THE TESTING COMPANY BEHIND THE STAAR TEST, HAS A $462 MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT WITH THE STATE, AND THEY HAVE A HEALTHY LOBBYING BUDGET AS WELL. Corruption, anyone? Wonder why legislators continually call for more rigor and blame teachers? I dont. Its all about who is in bed with Pearson. I knew it when I heard that the low passing rates are staying the same-- TX is trying to put a shine on a turd and hoping that keeping passing rates ridiculously low will somehow overcome a flawed system. ENOUGH already. For an entire year of instruction to revolve around a ONE DAY, 4 hour test, or, in the case of Writing, a TWO DAY, 4 hours-each-day test, is INSANE. And to put it all in the laps of teachers as if they are not working themselves to death trying to help these kids pass a flawed test is EVIL. And yet, we get on the merry-go-round year after year, HOPING to prove ourselves worthy of a job and parents HOPING to prove their kids smart enough and kids HOPING that this year will be different, and that theyll prove themselves capable of getting 54% of the questions right so the state can puff out its figurative chest and pronounce itself WORTHY of respect because they buy into standardized testing. Follow the money, people. Its a system rife with corruption and legislators who dont give one of those shiny, shiny turds about your kids education.
