Known as a true preacher of underground house music, a member of Chicagos House Preservation Society, and one of the key figures in Chicagos warehouse and loft party scene. Bill has always been considered a for those who know type DJ. After several years hiatus, Bill has returned to let the rest of the world in on his secret..Bills family migrated from Cuba in the late 1960s. Born in Los Angeles, raised in Miami, he attended nights at a local teen club called The Forest at a young age. The music attracted younger and older kids, the DJ played all the Miami Tk Disco and Marlin Label music, Italo Disco coming from Italy and what was known as NY Underground Disco. Groups like Lime, Sandy Martin & Den Harrow also performed there. At the time there were few places in Miami to hear that type of music, then Salvation came around. While most of his friends were able to get into Salvation, Bill was one of the unfortunate ones: I remember sitting on the stairs outside, while people would be selling LSD to patrons walking in, and Krishnas would be on the sidewalk chanting.. There was no place like Salvation. Shortly after, he obtained a fake ID and began exploring clubs like Copa, Fire & Ice, Seda (South Eastern Disco Association) and Horizons. From the moment he started going to clubs he became serious about record collecting. He had been djing birthday parties and events for friends, but after a few gigs at nights like Disco Inferno, he started getting some real recognition. In those days it was mainly Artists, Punks and Gays who lived and partied in South Beach. It wasnt until Bill landed a job at Flamingo Record Pool, run by Richard Mcvay & Bill Kelly (WMC fame) that he discovered house music. Bill remembers when promos from Chicago started arriving with house and acid mixes on them. He felt so in tune with what was happening in Chicago that he needed to be there. After frequent visits, he made the move and shortly after, was spinning at clubs and loft parties around the city. His first residency was at Chicagos the Shelter, and later at places like The Vault with Derrick Carter and Mark Farina, as well as Alcazar with Spencer Kincy. In the time since he has held several residencies and played around the world. Hes worked with numerous well known artists, releasing projects on labels such as Trax, Club House, Relief, and Rong Music to name a few. Bills influence has touched many of todays talent and he continues to spread his unique brand of underground house music to the world. Mystic Bill plays this Friday July 18th - at Studio 200 #BeApart
