Kokborok Songs Kokborok is a native language of Tripuri people of Tripura, and adjoining areas of Bangladesh. Dance, Song and music are part & parcel of Tripuri community. The folk song of Tripura is collectively called as Tipra Bharot-which include the famous form of Jadukolija Ruchapmung, Tangibiti Ruchupmung etc. It’s worthy to be mention this old song is based on older Tradition, festival, beliefs, Jhum cultivation, war & love. Tripuris also had indigenous Instruments used for the songs-such as Dandrum, Sarinda, Chongpreng, Kham, Duluk, Somui etc. A unique feature is found in the tradition of Kokborok music and songs are, to narrate a story by singing. Thus, a story is presented through songs; the listeners sometimes burst into laughter or get overwhelmed with tears. Among these instrumental musical narrations, there are many heart-breaking stories such as Sikam Chhoba, Mamla Mwsa Chamani (i.e. a story narrating how a love affair was melted in the mouth of a tiger), the song of cutting thorny plants called Jali (Raisok tanmani), Khumpui, Chethuang, Kuchuk Hasikam, Kuchuk Kherengbar Bubar, Nuwai, etc. The era of 21st century has brought many changes in kokborok music, love of western & Indian music has brought many local bands, incorporation of Indian classical music system has add move flavor in kokborok music. Kokborok Sahitya Sabha, Kokborok tei Hukumu Mission has really work heard for the upliftment of kokborok language and kokborok music. Famous kokborok singer & writers who had contribute in kokborok music are-evergreen Chirokumar Debbarma, Saudagar Debbarma, Ruhi Debbarma, Usha Debbarma, Kanthakti Jamatia, Manosi Debbarma, Biswanath Debbarma,Sourobhee Debbarma, Hemanta Kumar Jamatia, Danan Joy Jamatia few to be mention.
