Kubwa Market remains congested... A densely populated market located in Kubwa village, Kubwa is yet to be rehabilitated or upgraded by the Bwari Area Council inspite of previous promises. Kubwa, a satellite town which is located about 40 kilometres from the city center, has the privilege of having some social amenities, like pipe borne water, good roads and electricity which are not easily seen in other satellite towns of the FCT, but highly neglected by the Area Council superintending it. The Info Extra discovered that the reason for the increase in population was due to its proximity to the city centre, but the high cost of accommodation in the city centre made many residents relocate to Kubwa which also pushed up the population density of the place with consequential implications. This development took a turn for the worst since the ban on commercial buses from picking or dropping passengers along the axis of Wuse market which is located within the city centre. Since then, most residents of Kubwa prefer to buy and sell their goods within Kubwa Market. This also resulted in sharp increased in the cost of goods in Kubwa Market. A trader in the market who pleaded anonymity, pleaded with the Bwari Area Council authorities to expand the road leading to the market as well as sanitize the market to a befitting status of the place. According to her, the market should be relocated to a new site that is larger than where it is today. ‘’The market is just too close to the narrow road and ought to be relocated to a bigger place,’’ she said. One of the motorists who also pleaded anonymity said that the stinking odour which oozes out from the market is so terrible that it could pose serious danger to human health. They went further by pleading to the authorities in charge of maintaining markets in both the Bwari Area Council and Abuja FCT at large, to come to their aid as the sanitary conditions in the market were getting worse day by day.
