Kudos to MG Umbarger and Gov. Pence for working hard to serve / FIGHT FOR all those that serve our nation and the state of Indiana as the CRITICALLY IMPORTANT Active Duty National Guard Soldiers and Airmen. (it blows my mind that we will weaken our defenses by for lowing the service members before they even consider freezing their very own pay and compensation to which is probably more combined than that of all the full-time service members in uniform within the state of Indianas National Guard! The following is a letter that was just sent out to the Active Duty National Guard soldiers and airmen... _____________________ Government shutdown message from the Adjutant General ***ALL FULL TIME SUPERVISORS CURRENTLY ON DUTY WILL ENSURE ALL FURLOUGHED EMPLOYEES RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE*** I’d like to take a moment to update you on how we are attempting to remedy the terrible situation of government shutdown and how it affects all of our personnel. As you are well aware, the government shutdown continues to have a significant impact to the Indiana National Guard as approximately 50% of our full time force is now on furlough. I am working with the governor’s office, our congressional delegation and National Guard Bureau to understand how this can / will impact all of our forces, especially with regards to pay. AGR personnel need to know that the Pay Our Military Act is signed into law but DOD attorneys are still conducting a legal review to ensure this applies to Title 10 and Title 32 personnel. Our federal technicians have been impacted in the worst way. Please know that your insurance benefits will continue. I am working diligently to find a resolution that allows all of our service members and federal technicians to return to work. The Pay Our Guard and Reserve Act is not yet signed. If and when signed into law, this will allow our traditional guardsmen to return to an IDT status. Governor Pence has agreed to keep our federally reimbursed state employees on duty for a total of 7 days, ending at the close of business on Oct 7, 2013. At that time, if a resolution is still not found, he and his staff will need to re-consider whether or not they can continue to pay our federally reimbursed state employees. I encourage all supervisors to maintain communications with their furloughed personnel in order to check on their welfare and ensure they have the resources they need. Our J9 department offers individual, family, and financial counseling. Please have your employees take advantage of the services that are available. I am greatly saddened that our government has chosen to put you in this situation. I am proud of you and your families for your sacrifices. You’ve made our organization what it is today. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I will continue to fight hard to get you all back to work as soon as possible. God bless each and every one of you. MG R. Martin Umbarger ______________________ Are we not mad yet?!?! Do we not see the epic failure that the collective in Washington has become fear our presidents administration, our United States Senate and the Representatives in Congress? Are you going to continue to believe whatever political Kool-Aid [whether it be blue or red] that youve been drinking!?! Or are you going to actually attempt to be a true CITIZEN of the United States as opposed to someone that simply one the geographical lottery at birth by being born in the United States and only now simply an inhabitant thereof AND ATTEMPT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!?!?!?
