Kudos to the fledgling AAP for fielding such strong and fiercely independent women candidates for the forthcoming 2014 election. I may be wrong but i think that this is something unprecedented in the history of Indian politics. I list below some of the candidates with a brief description of their credentials. Anita Partap- Former CNN India Bureau chief. 1st journalist to interview LTTE chief Prabhakaran. George Polk award recipient for TV reporting during the times of Taliban. Sarah Joseph-One of Keralas most prominent authors.Winner of Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award. Feminist. Tiliya Devi- Dalit right activist. Tiliya Devi. For two decades, she worked tirelessly to create awareness about Dalit rights to land given under the Bhudaan movement (Outlook, 2005) Shazia Ilmi- Former TV journalist.Spokesperson for the India Against Corruption movement. Medha Patkar-Among Indias biggest social activists.Founder member of Narmada Bachao Andolan. Meera Sanyal: A Harvard and INSEAD alumunus. Chairman and CEO of RBS India. During her tenure Meera mentored the MicroFinance program, which financed over 650,000 women in rural India (wikipedia) Shefali Misra- Shefali Misra, a former “international civil servant” at UN, human rights activist and writer, has been fielded from Sitapur. Shefali, who has studied at Delhi University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and London School of Economics.. Runs the Colonel Shamsher Singh Foundation, an NGO that works towards a variety of causes including gender equality, education and disaster management. Served on the advisory board of the Wockhardt Foundation.Member of the India Against Corruption movement. Soni Sori- Tribal activist. Victim of extra judicial torture. 6 out of 8 trumped up cases against her have already been dismissed for the lack of evidence. Anjali Damania: Doctor and businesswomen, exposed the 70,000 crore irrigation scam by Ajit Pawar (nephew of Sharad Pawar) and Nitin Gadkaris Purti Group Scam.
