NO RAY PARKS ON THIS YEARS DRAFT.. SO GREG OR IAN ANG PAGPIPILIAN SA NO. 1 PICK.. HINDI PA RAW SYA ELIGIBLE DAHIL HND PA GRADUATE... -mark MANILA - The new ruling on PBA rookie applicants which was ratified by the league’s Board of Governors before the start of the current season will bar Filipino-American collegiate superstar Ray-Ray Parks from entering this year’s draft. According to Media Bureau chief Willie Marcial, the league has decided to lower the age requirement among applicants from 23 years old to 21. For those under the age of 21, the PBA will still accept aspirants who have finished a four-year course before the start of the season. Parks will turn 21 on February 19 and is scheduled to complete his Information Technology course at the National University March of next year. Parks has been touted as a potential number one pick should he decide to enter the draft. Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Executive Director Sonny Barrios once told Solar Sports Desk that they are hoping to include Parks in their SEA Games line-up. Barrios however said that he has been receiving information that Parks is still weighing his PBA and NBA options. PBA operations director Rickie Santos said that this year, a local player will be eligible if he turns 21 or has finished a four-year course by November 17, the scheduled opening of the 2014 Season. But even without Parks, the league is still expecting a bumper crop as a good number of college mainstays have officially applied for the rookie draft that will be held November 3 at the Robinson’s Place in Ermita, Manila. Among those who have made their names available are Ateneo’s Greg Slaughter and Nico Salva and Letran’s Raymond Almazan. Expected to join the draft are San Sebastian’s Ian Sangalang, Ateneo’s Ryan Buenafe and San Sebastian’s Ronald Pascual. “Those who have entered the draft can still withdraw before we release the final list to all PBA teams, most likely by October 30,” added Marcial. via dennis principe
