Kurdish Hospitality in Northern Iraq Facebook friend Frazier Damon mentioned today that he was at the Turkish/Iraq border for work this morning, and complete strangers invited him to breakfast. This is the Kurdish hospitality that I remember well. If you are up there in northern Iraq, and someone invites you for a meal, go if you have time. Sometimes they do not speak English, and I do not speak Kurdish, but I often got by with German. Many Kurds speak other languages like German or Swedish, so try every language you know. Most will speak Arabic, too. Many will speak Farsi or Turkish. Just try every language you know, and if that does not work, then smile and enjoy the company. Everyone understands a sincere smile. Make sure to bring a camera. The Kurdish area is beautiful.
