Kwara Tops Delegates’ List At National Conference A member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and a delegate to the on-going National Conference, Malam Ishaq Moddibo Kawu, on Saturday in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, said the state has the highest number of indigenes representing different institutions at the confab. He, however, lamented that the domineering political influence of certain individuals in the state which, according to him, have prevented many Kwarans in Diaspora from contributing to the development of the state. Kawu said this while delivering a lecture at a one-day retreat organised by the Kwara state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the theme: ‘A New Dawn for the Development for Kwara state’. Kawu, who is the former General Manager of Kwara State Television Authority, said that the state indigenes must rise to reclaim their “commonwealth” in the interest of the masses. One of the dangers of democracy in Nigeria and, by extension, the well-being of the people of Kwara state is when you have a political process that is being governed by an individual”. I am a delegate representing the Nigerian Guild of Editors at the confab. I want to tell you that no state has the highest number of delegates like Kwara. We are nominated by different institutions, but when you come back home, you are being ruled by mediocrity”, he said. Kawu said the state has the potentials to become great, if properly tapped, and recalled that it was the most educated state in the old northern Nigeria and also had the best civil service in Nigeria. He challenged the political class in the state to moderate their ambition and earn the support of the youth with a view of working together, regardless of their ethnic and religious differences.
