Kyiv is relatively calm, apart from thugs and police that catch people outside of the Maidan. The real battle goes on across Ukraine where people are rising and occupying their Oblast Administrations. Ukrainians living in Central and Eastern Ukraine have the most challenging task - the police out there are ruthless. The last couple of days the entire country was watching Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Odesa, Lugansk. To protest there is scary. Yesterday police and thugs mercilessly wiped out a protest in Zhaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk. Dima Smolienko (photojournalist from Ukrinform ) said the following I came by minibus to Zaporizhzhya Regional State Administration, as soon as I learned that they were dispersing the maidan there. Started taking pictures. I did it openly. Not hiding. But I was immediately knocked down by a titushka (government hired thug). He started beating me with a bat. He was joined by a berkut officer. I tried as best as I could to cover my head and equipment. They smashed my head in. Destroyed my hands. I shouted that I was a journalist, but it caused a backlash - before my own eyes the berkutovets and titushka trampled equipment worth 8000 dollars. After all this, with a torn apart brow, I was thrown into a police wagon and taken to the police department. We stood next to the police department for 20 minutes. The policemen did not know what to do. Then a man came and asked if there is a Smolienko. I was brought into the office, the governor Alexander Peklushenko came in himself and started telling me what I need to know, where I can and cannot go... Events in Kiev yesterday now have a distant nature, after what happened today, the front line is here in Zaporizhzhia. This is fascism. What kills me most is that I was beaten not only by police but also by some thug.
