Kyle Letheren is determined to be top dog this season. Not only is he chasing Championship glory with Dundee but he’s desperate to be the man at the very summit of the clean-sheet charts. So far, the former Wales U/21 international has kept three shut-outs from six games, since securing a summer move from Premiership side Kilmarnock. And that record is something he’s looking to improve this evening, when Livingston come to town. “We want to win this league — If I can keep 15 clean sheets I’m sure we’ll be in with a chance,” said the man who started his career at Swansea City. “We’ve kept three clean sheets out of six so far this season but I want more. “It’s a record I’m chasing — I want to be the keeper with the most clean sheets this season. “Not conceding is a platform we can build on. If you keep it clean at the back you’ve got a chance.” The Dark Blues have kicked off their campaign with just one loss, at Queen of the South. But Letheren does not think they have been at their best. And he’s hoping everything clicks into place tonight. The 25-year-old said: “We haven’t played our best football so far — you haven’t seen the best of us. “If we were not creating chances we would be worried. “But we’ve started to create chances and it’s now just a case of putting them away. “That will all click soon. We’ll start scoring goals.” He added: “We know how hard it’ll be against Livingston. “People think we’re going to roll teams over four and five. “That will come this season but not this early and not every week. “Teams in this league raise their game an extra 10% against us. “But we can only concentrate on ourselves, and our job is to win as many games as we can.” Letheren was just one of a number of players brought in this summer by Dark Blues boss John Brown. Two of his fellow-new boys, Carlo Monti and Peter MacDonald, have had differing starts to their careers at Dens. One has got off to a flyer, banging in the goals but the other has struggled since the real ball came out. Letheren is backing both to be a success this season. “I see it in training every day — Peaso and Carlo are top-class strikers,” he said. “I’m having to train against them day in day out — I know they will do well. “You know what you get with Peaso — he’s always scored goals at every level he’s played at. He’ll guarantee that. “I hadn’t seen much of Monti before I came here but he’s impressed me so far. “He needs one to come off his backside to get him on a roll. “What he did in pre-season was no fluke. “He’ll get back to that before long, he just needs the rub of the green.” Another player who Letheren singled out for praise is young central defender Declan Gallagher. He said: “Big Dec is a quality defender. “He’s a big strong boy who goes out and wins it. As a goalkeeper that’s what you want to see your defenders do. “It has made my job easier. “As a unit we have been solid.”
