L.A. County Fair: 7 city managers unite to help build Habitat for Humanity home Building a house is a labor of love. San Dimas City Manager Blaine Michaelis summed up the primary reason he and other city managers joined La Verne City Manager Bob Russi to help build a Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity house at the L.A. County Fair on Wednesday. After the fair ends, the house will be moved to its permanent site at 1520 First St. in La Verne. It is one of four homes being built as part of the regional Habitat’s “Salute to Service” campaign to satisfy the dream of home ownership for a veteran or military man or woman who has defended freedom and the American way. Russi issued invitations to city managers from La Puente to Rancho Cucamonga, asking his professional counterparts to hammer, pound nails and, with earthquake safety in mind, create sheer panels on the La Verne Habitat house being partly built at the fair. This is the fourth Habitat project for La Verne.
