LADY & TRAMP KENNEL NEWS: July 9th, Wednesday The adorable - TopicsExpress

LADY & TRAMP KENNEL NEWS: July 9th, Wednesday The adorable youngsters seemed a little out-of-sorts today. When we arrived, Tramp seemed terribly afraid of us, unlike his usual self... he seemed to shiver against the wall and not seek any interaction even when we held out his favourite food to him. Unlike Lady, who now seemed to recognise us and although was not incredibly forward, was willing to stand on the Coolaroo and eat from our hand. And then sprawl towards our direction instead of curling up in the corner again. After a moment of consideration and watching Lady devour the tidbits, Tramp decided that he wanted to be part of the activities and inched forward towards our display of meats and cream cheese. He licked his chops as if to say tell us that he was looking forward to the treat and had forgotten his nervousness from earlier. It is always a delicate process trying to communicate to Lady & Tramp that we mean no harm. They had lost their confidence in us after we had showered them twice in the kennel while they panicked and tried to escape the room - What did we say? They really dont like to get wet. And we can hardly blame them! Bathing and shampooing can mask a dogs natural scent and disarm them. And yes, stray dogs have no need to bathe! After their bout of bloody stools last month, we recently purchased for Lady & Tramp a bag of special grain-free kibble and an air-tight container as an effort to prevent gastritis, bacterial infection and other long-term health issues. The container was still full and untouched after a week. It was obvious that the care-taker had chosen to ignore our request to feed Lady & Tramp the sponsored food. We also noticed that the Coolaroo bed was hung up on the grills day and night, unless we visited to lay it out. The purpose of it was so that the two would not have to rest on cold wet floors. Obviously the care-taker had other ideas. We had been told to expect sub-standard care, but this is quite simply disappointing. We had the impression that the kennels were the safest place for strays from the dangers of the street. Yet we now understand that at the kennels, disease can spread like wildfire with no means of escape for the fenced-in dogs who all share living space; food is left out in bowls to sour overnight and roaches and rats climb in through the dank open drainage for their share of sustenance and to strut amongst resting kennel dogs. So, no. Kennel life is no life for two clean and gentle dogs who never did anyone any harm but want to be around people that they find so interesting. While we had tried to rehabilitate Lady & Tramp at the kennels, and keep them in optimal health, we realise that they would integrate much quicker and be less prone to health issues with proper care in a home environment with a responsible caregiver. The effort that we had been putting into creating a better life for Lady & Tramp are being thwarted by factors out of our control and we really need help. Your help. We have decided to put out a notice for ADOPTION for Lady & Tramp to either be adopted as a pair, or as individuals in an attempt for them to bond with their Potential Adopters as early as possible. We are open to good fosterers, although Lady & Tramp would bond to their caregiver and it would be preferable that they be removed into a stable and permanent environment. Our adoption notice containing relevant information about Lady & Tramp will be out in the next post. Do keep a look out for it! P.S. We cant wait to meet all the good people who have space in their hearts and homes for sweet and quiet dogs! *Fingers Crossed*
