LAST DISCIPLESHIP SCHOOL- excerpts and pics UNDERSTANDING THE ANOINTING was a powerful time in the presence of the word of grace. The word of God was shared and Gods people were filled with revelation truths. The power of God fell upon the place and many were touched by the power of God as the words came alive. Some excerpts below... UNDERSTANDING THE ANOINTING: INTRO:.... Two questions are pertinent- What is the anointing and how can you be anointed? 1. WHAT IS THE ANOINTING? The anointing of God is an extraordinary theme in the Bible. The anointing is often associated with the pouring of Oil and infact the first time the anointing will be mentioned, it involved the pouring of Oil. Jacob in Genesis 28:18 poured oil on a stone signifying the identification of Gods presence and God himself in Genesis 31:13 interpreted that event of Gen. 28 as anointing. Does that mean the Oil is anointing? Good question. The second place where the anointing was again discussed was in Exodus. The issue of the anointing in Exodus 28:41; “And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priests office.” And we see how God chose a particular lineage and asked Moses to anoint them. To anoint as we all know (or should know) is the word “mashach” which means to rub, paint or smear with oil. This Oil Moses was to use was specially prepared. God gave the measures and ingredients necessary in Exodus 30:25-27. It was a special Oil and God commanded in Exodus 30:32; “Do not pour it on anyone elses body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred.” It was sacred and specific. Does that again mean the Oil is the anointing? Hold on-the trend changed when God asked Moses to anoint tables, vessels, altars, articles etc in Exodus chapter 40. This change of “specificity” altered the perception of what the Anointing was all about. How will God anoint people with a glorious mixture and then anoint objects too? Does that not imply that beyond just pouring Oil, something else does precede? Lets give a summary- 20 times anointing was mentioned in the Old Testament and about 4 times in the New testament. Lets add the perspective of the New testament to it. In the New testament, the anointing takes on a different perspective, Jesus Christ said the Good Samaritan anointed the wounds of the man left for dead. In summary, people were anointed and objects can be anointed. But why? God never commands anything to be anointed until HE HAS FIRST CHOSEN THEM. What is primary is Gods selection of what is and should be anointed with Oil...that is primary. The physical Oil is secondary and so not foundation to the anointing. God chose Aaron and his sons and then asked Moses to anoint them. However, God did not anoint Abraham the father of faith. Noah was not anointed. Even Enosh who walked with God was never anointed. Did God not choose them and walked with them? Why then did He not anoint them as he did the prophets and some Kings? So we can see how God would anoint beyond chosen men to objects or articles and how God would not necessarily physically anoint some great men of faith in the Bible(I shall soon explain this). It is important will note these things. What then is the anointing? THE ANOINTING IS THE PHYSICAL APPLICATION OR MANIFESTATION OF THE EMPOWERMENT OF GOD FOR THAT WHICH GOD HAS ALREADY DECIDED FOR IN ACCORDANCE TO HIS PLAN AND SCHEDULES. This means; what should come before the anointing with oil is that God has a plan and God has already chosen the tools He intends to use to carry out this plan. This has two implications. First, the physical application of Oil to rub or smear follows the pre-requisite selection or election of God. It is similar to baptism- “put a sinner into the water, he or she will only come out a wet sinner”. The new birth is only physically re-enacted by the Physical baptism. That is the limit of the Oil today. The disciples started the use of Oil when praying for the sick, they needed not the physical Oil- because God has already healed every sick person they would meet. Mark 6:13; “And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.” Second, it means that the physical smear or rubbing of Oil is for physical men not for the invisible God. That is why Jesus was not anointed with Oil, the physical attestation happened in another way. John the Baptist declared; “And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost” ( John 1:33). Again for the disciples, John 12:30 says; “Jesus answered and said, this voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.” For the sake of the disciples did the physical manifestation of the voice. That is why when people anoint themselves in the Bible for other reasons, it wasn’t a big deal. Ruth 3:3 anointed herself. Daniel 10:3 did not anoint himself because he was mourning. The physical Oil is only for the physical demand or acknowledgment, the non-physical application really gets the job done. This shows that God acknowledge our physicality but still uses the spiritual to cause changes. That is why speaking in tongues is not the sign of the Holy Spirit, the new birth is. GOD ACKNOWLEDGES THE PHYSICAL BUT RELIES ON THE SPIRITUAL. There is really no big deal with the rubbing of Oil until there was a big deal that exists on God’s calendar for supernatural change. Let me tell you about a “big deal” anointing. God mandated the anointing with Oil of His priest because they had Levites who were not priest working with them, they were anointed so the people can mark the difference, not God, GOD ALREADY KNOW THEY WERE DIFFERENT. Korah and Dathan needed some extra lessons in understanding that (Numbers 16). But Kings were not anointed unless there was a possible threat to their appointment as Kings or there was a need for public acknowledgment. David was anointed for Samuel to know God had a greater plan excluding Saul. Solomon was anointed because of Adonijah’s coup; Joash was anointed because of Athaliah ; and Jehu, because of Jorams claims. The anointing was for people to recognize the divine appointments. So the anointing is ‘THE ANOINTING IS THE PHYSICAL APPLICATION OR MANIFESTATION OF THE EMPOWERMENT OF GOD FOR THAT WHICH GOD HAS ALREADY DECIDED FOR IN ACCORDANCE TO HIS PLAN AND SCHEDULES’. In summary- THERE IS A DIVINE SELECTION AND THERE IS AN EARTHLY IDENTIFICATION. Anointing is equal to divine appointments or that which is divine set apart. Men not the invisible God need the physical identification... THIS LEADS TO THE NEXT QUESTION: 2. HOW DOES GOD ANOINT? This is quite extraordinary. Have you read Isaiah 45:1 and Galatians 1:16 and Jeremiah 1:5- what do you see? Jesus..... To be continued. Shalom!
