LATE E.D LOREMIKAN,40 YEARS AFTER.A TRIBUTE TO A POLICE ICON Sweet they say is the remembrance of the righteous. So it is over 40yrs that Baba Olopaa as we called him left us.I remembered with nostalgia his long height and booming voice announcing his arrival early in the morning at his Logun-ode residence.Although he Baba would have arrived Igbajo very late in the evening of the previous day,he would have visited Owa and all his friends such as Chief Awope the then Lemikan of Igbajo at least to crack jokes and share drinks. His house became a Mecca of sort till he left again for Lagos. This always gave me the priviledge to look at him even at distance with awesomeness, listened to good Music of Obey and I.K.Dairo from his Music box.Whenever Baba came home with his children especially my friend now my Egbon Demola,I looked at them as special breeds and different from those of us home-based.I remember during the burial of Babas mother I was lucky to move closer to him and the baba Fans Photo got a good short of Baba and me wearing only my pant(pata). At home Baba was the first Logun-ode Okeresi,a title bestowed on him in 1957 by the late Owa Oba Famodun as a result of his good work to his people. As a Police Officer,he was a deligent Supretendent of Police and always assigned difficult jobs but used virtues in him to solve such problem without denting his image.A good example was the popular case of an impostor(then Dr.now Prof Wole Soyinka)at the then Radio Nigeria Ibadan.Despite the dirty politics at that time Baba never dented his image. This was a good example that the Mbus in the Police nowadays should emulate. Baba had gone and he left a good foot prints that his children are following.I pray to God to sustain them the more.To my good Egbon Demola I wish him the necessary wherewithal needed to carry in the town where baba stopped. As they mark the 40th years of Babas demise tomorrow at Jogor Hotel Ibadan, may the Lord continue to keep the family going.
