LAW & ORDER - NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY – PART III Seconds ticked by. Mrs. Palmer seemed in no hurry. By the time she had chambered the last round, in her revolver, Mr. Palmer had disappeared into the dense undergrowth. He was safe for now. Still concealed behind the thick chest-high hedge, Michael lowered his weapon. “Now what?” He remained concealed contemplating what to do next…If anything. His backup was still fifteen plus minutes away. Through A slight break in the hedge, Michael continued to monitor Mrs. Palmer. She calmly set her gun down. “Good,” Michael thought, but his relief was short-lived. Mrs. Palmer spun on her heals, reached through the screen door and re-emerges with a 12 gauge pump shotgun. Grim-faced, she racked a round like a pro and stepped off the back porch. She stood still for a moment, thinking, glanced at the barn and then turned. A moment later, she was heading directly toward Michael. Michael raised his semi-automatic pistol and aimed; he had a split second to decide what to do next. Strangely, Mrs. Palmer’s gaze not directed at him. Instead, as she neared the red Corvette, her eyes narrowed, she focused on the shining sports car. Michael’s trigger finger eased up, even when Mrs. Palmer shouldered the shotgun. She was not pointing the weapon at him. Instead the barrel was centered the windshield of the sports car. Bam! Shards of safety glass rained down on Michael. Mrs. Palmer had just blown out her husband’s windshield. Bam! Another blast; bits of car body parts flew into the air. Michael peeked a look. Mrs. Palmer now only a few feet away, her back to him, the shotgun rose for another shot. Bam! Bam! Bam! Three more loads of buckshot blasted the Corvette. It now looked like a car bomb had exploded. There was silence. Mrs. Palmer lowered her now empty weapon, a slight grin forming on her face. In an instant, Michael holstered his pistol, rolled back on his haunches and launched forward. He had been waiting for…this chance…
