Today the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) - TopicsExpress

Today the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) released their report on the very important issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. The IACHR had been studying the issues for over two years after a request was made by the Native Womens Association of Canada (NWAC) and Feminist Alliance for International Action in March of 2012. The report outlines a number of recommendations to be made by various levels of government, I have attached the link to the article below if you would like to read it. Our Prime Minister of Canada and the Conservative Party of Canada have so far not agreed to a national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, as they are touted as saying they are more interested in taking action. What they fail to realise is that before any action is taken, all parties affected by this issue must be consulted with. This is because the process is critical and the decisions that are made on the issue will affect Indigenous women and girls regardless, so it only makes sense to consult with them in terms of the decisions that are made regarding the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. It’s interesting to know that Anita Neville, the previous MP for Winnipeg South Centre has been asking for an inquiry since 2009, and it is quite frankly appalling that no action has been taken by the Conservative government in terms of a national inquiry. Contrary to our Prime Ministers belief, these are far from isolated incidents and a sociological phenomenon. As of right now, the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC) is committed to an inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women. The LPC is aware that the situation is critical, so it is important to have the input of Indigenous women and girls, and the families who have lost their loved ones over the past decades. This will ensure that all parties affected by this issue are consulted with, to ensure the process is done right the first time. I hope you are with me come election time this year in supporting a government who will do the right thing, which is calling an inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women. #TeamTrudeau #Hopeandhardwork huffingtonpost.ca/2015/01/12/murdered-missing-aboriginal-women-report_n_6456176.html
