LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT (Heb.12:1) The admonition to lay aside - TopicsExpress

LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT (Heb.12:1) The admonition to lay aside every weight and sin that easily beset us is made by the writer of Hebrews in order for Christians to reign with Jesus in Heaven. The word weight in Greek means: that which is crooked or hooked, and hence it means anything that is attached or suspended by a hook. The word is often used by classic writers in the sense of swelling, tumour or pride. As applied to Christians, is means that they should remove all which would obstruct their progress in the Christian race. This weight is not the same thing for all persons. For some it may be pride, worldliness, violence or uncontrollable temper. In another it may be vanity, corrupt imagination, a heavy leaden, insensible heart, improper and unholy attachment. Whatever is the weight that will not allow you to prepare and be ready for Christ, you are admonished to lay them aside and completely remove them and become a candidate of HEAVEN.
