UIA Defends Allocation of Disputed Ssembabule Land to Investor The land is at the center of a dispute between Kerren Kayonga, a local investor and more than 2500 squatters occupying it. Dr. Frank Ssebowa, the Executive Director Uganda Investment Authority has clarified on the allocation of a piece of land occupied by 2500 people to a private developer in Ssembabule district saying it was done within the law. The disputed 4.5 square miles piece of land is found in Bigaga village. It covers part Bigo Byamugenyi in Ntusi Sub County, Sembabule district. The land is at the center of a dispute between Kerren Kayonga, a local investor and more than 2500 squatters occupying it. Motorcycles Owners Demand for Extension of Registration Exercise The voluntary motorcycle registration exercise is scheduled to expire on June 30th, 2013. Motorcycles owners in Yumbe and Moyo districts have petitioned Uganda Revenue Authority-URA to extend the deadline for the voluntarily registration exercise. In January this year, URA gave owners of unregistered motorcycles in West Nile region a grace period of six months to register them. The voluntary motorcycle registration exercise is scheduled to expire on June 30th, 2013. As a result, some of the motorcycle owners have petitioned the regional URA office to extend the voluntary registration deadline to October. Health Service Delivery Appalling in Kibaale: Report During the assessment exercise, the team visited various health centers in the district to assess their performance. The state of health facilities and services delivery in Kibaale district is appalling, a survey by the state house drug and monitoring unit has revealed. Officials from the state house drug and monitoring unit have been in Kibaale district since June 4th to assess the delivery of health services focusing on accountability, sanitation and professionalism among other areas. During the assessment exercise, the team visited various health centers in the district to assess their performance. UPDF Hunting Ex-Servicemen For Disappearing With War Materials The army authorities are expressing concern that the ex-servicemen melted away with war materials upon arrival in the country Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF has threatened to arrest unspecified number of ex-servicemen accused of disappearing with war materials. The suspects are part of 2000 UPDF veterans, who were recalled and deployed in Somalia to serve under UGABAG 12 fighting group. However, after returning home some of the veterans returned home and vanished with military materials including uniforms, boots and caps. IGG Orders Removal of Malaba LC 3 Chairperson She cites the Anti Corruption Act law, which bars any public official convicted for corruption from holding office for the next ten years. Irene Mulyagonja, the Inspector General of Government wants Alfred George Obore, the Malaba Town council LC 3 chairperson removed from office. Mulyagonja has written to Adolf Mwesigye, the minister of local government to cause the sacking of Obore citing his earlier conviction for corruption. She cites the Anti Corruption Act law, which bars any public official convicted for corruption from holding office for the next ten years. “Section 46 of the Anti Corruption Act, states that a person who is a convict of abuse of office shall be disqualified from holding a public office for a period of ten years from the date of conviction.
