LESS THAN A WEEK BEFORE ELECTION DAY Secretary of State Kate Brown is urging all Oregon voters to cast ballots With six days left before Election Day, Secretary of State Kate Brown today applauded Gilliam County for leading Oregon in voter turnout, with 41.6% of registered voters casting ballots as of Oct. 28. Wallowa County has the second-highest turnout with 35.7%. Sherman and Lake county are tied for third with 34.8%. “Earlier this month I challenged each and every Oregon voter to give their county the distinction of winning the 2014 Voter Turnout Challenge,” said Secretary Brown. “I’m very proud of voters in these rural counties for setting an example for the rest of the state to follow.” Overall turnout in Oregon stands at 23.8%. The Secretary of State’s office updates turnout on its website each afternoon. An interactive map is also available. With Election Day (Nov. 4) less than a week away, Secretary Brown is urging all registered voters to cast ballots to make sure their voices are heard. In order to be counted, ballots must be received by county elections officials no later than 8 p.m. on Nov. 4. “If you don’t get your ballot in the mail by Halloween this Friday, I recommend returning it in person at an official drop box or county elections office to be completely sure it is counted,” Secretary Brown said. Drop box locations are available on the Elections Division website.
