LET US REJOICE THAT OUR BROTHER ANTHONY OKEZI ITEWO NARROWLY ESCAPED DEATH! Brethren, let us rejoice and give thanks to God that our brother, Anthony Okezi Itewo, narrowly escaped death when a commercial mini-bus in which he was a passenger collided head-on with a Honda car precisely a month ago today. Three persons died instantly while many were grievously wounded and remain in hospital. The driver of the mini-bus, demented like most commercial drivers in Lagos (and in Nigeria generally), had been driving against traffic in a one-way lane. Okezi whose left leg was broken was in a coma for two weeks. He has undergone surgery and is able to walk within a limited radius with the aid of crutches. The prognosis appears good for his regaining the full use of his leg. By the way, Okezi had recently become a father and it is obvious that his infant son, Orezi, was intent on not being half-orphaned right in the crib! Okezi is a soft-spoken gentleman steely in his conviction and defence of the truth. It would have been a tragic blow had fate been less kind to us. While wishing those who died a happy repose for their souls, let us wish Okezi and all the co-passengers who were injured speedy recovery. And thank God for sparing Okezis life.
