Skin injuries like acne, minor burns, bites, cuts, or scrapes can cause the formation of some kind of scar on the skin. With time, an improper amount of collagen growth occurs in the scar, leading to the formation of keloids. Generally it does not cause any kind of pain but sometimes they can be itchy. Even though keloids do not cause any damage to the skin, these scars look ugly. People opt for treatment of keloid using surgery, injections and laser treatment. Instead of spending money on these expensive treatments, there are some simple and easy home remedies also that can help a lot. Aloe Vera Aloe vera is good for the skin and hence can be used in the treatment of keloids. On the scars apply fresh aloe vera gel twice daily. Before applying aloe vera gel it is essential to clean the area properly with lukewarm water. This remedy will reduce the inflammation and pain, keep the skin well moisturized and heal the damaged skin. It will also prevent further skin infection. Lemon Juice Lemon juice contains natural antioxidants and vitamin C that help a lot in treating different types of skin scars including keloids. Take fresh lemon and extract its juice and then apply the juice on the affected skin area. Leave for about half an hour and then wash this skin with lukewarm water. Repeat the process daily at least once. Within few weeks you can notice significant improvement in the color, texture, appearance, and flexibility of the scar. Apple Cider Vinegar Another great home remedy for treating keloids is apple cider vinegar. Apply some ACV directly on the affected skin area and gently massage so that the vinegar gets properly absorbed into the skin. Allow the ACV to dry for a few minutes and then repeat the process again in order to expedite the healing process. If apple cider vinegar causes any kind of skin irritation, then you can dilute it with water. Repeat this remedy several times a day for maximum results. Lavender Oil Lavender oil has got skin cell rejuvenating properties that can help with all forms of scarring, including keloids. At the same time lavender oil helps to increase skin cell turn over rate which is highly beneficial in preventing scars to become permanent. You can reduce the scar by applying lavender oil and massage the area gently for several minutes. Repeat the process several times a day to enjoy faster and better result. Another option is to mix lavender oil and tea tree essential oil or olive oil in equal amounts and then apply it on the affected skin area several times a day. Follow this remedy daily, until the keloid starts receding. Sandalwood and Rose Water Sandalwood has got many skin regenerating properties and on the other hand rose water is a natural skin toner. So, sandalwood and rosewater are used together to deal with keloid scars. Take sandalwood powder and add enough rose water to make a thick paste. Here if you wish you can also add some black gram to the paste. Clean the scar with water and then apply this paste on the affected skin area before going to bed. Next morning wash the skin properly with lukewarm water. When this remedy is followed regularly for a month or two, it will prevent as well as reduce and lighten the keloid scar. Baking Soda Baking soda acts as an abrasive agent and helps to keep the skin free from dirt and debris. Hence, baking soda can also be used successfully to manage keloids. For this particular remedy you need to mix one part baking soda with three parts of hydrogen peroxide to make a smooth paste. Apply this paste directly onto the affected skin area to reduce inflammation and fasten up the healing process. Re-apply this paste three to four times a day depending upon the severity of the scar.
