LETS REVISE THAT 18TH CENTURY CONSTITUTION Sociologists have truly advanced an understanding of human rights, but we are drawing from international law because human rights do not have a meaning in the U.S. - at least that is distinct from civil & political rights. Other constitutions and international human rights treaties offer abundant examples of fundamental human rights. This spring semester different sociology classes are going to take on REVISING THE CONSTITUTION -- when we basically mean, revising the bill of rights. Nothing is top-down about this exercise because students will want to own the project. Mark Frezzo and I - from Sociologists without Borders- US - will be resource people when - and if - you need us. Otherwise, I think the attached is about all you need. At the end of the semester we will post each classs work on the web page. I think there will be opportunities for collaborative articles and presentations. sociologistswithoutborders.org/
