**********LETS START THIS YEAR MOVING!!!********** OK It is September the 1st and time for the Adur Sea of Lights team to start gathering and informing people in earnest. So here is the start of our build up to the awesome parade. As you know we have picked Maritime History as our theme this year. Adur is thriving with sea related history and heroes. We are host to the best kite surfing beaches. We have the life boats and coast guard. We have the history of the fishing communities and their current influences too. Smugglers have brought us goodies and Sea monsters have haunted our dreams. This year the parade will be split into four sections. I will put posts up with ideas for the four sections as the weeks go by but to break it down and explain here is a brief run down. PICTURE THIS... Celebrating our fishing communities. (Imagining all the kids dressed as fishermen really cracks me up). All people in this part of the parade need to be wearing fisherman / fisher woman costumes. Where possible all fish lanterns will be silver (as catch is more than likely to be silver fish) One idea for a costume is to buy a yellow poncho from the pound shop, make a white beard and make a fishermans hat out of paper. Welly boots and and a lantern and you are away! Wrap some cardboard around your buggies and make a fishing boat out of it! If you have a real fishing boat or fishing paraphernalia and would like to be in our parade please message us. The Beach and water sports. Blow up your Kite and attach it to some bamboo poles add some battery fairy lights and BAM awesome parade lantern! This is a great opportunity for the local beach sports people to come and show us land lubbers what there is on offer. Come dressed in your wet suits (and a coat), wear scuba masks or come in victorian swimwear and rubber rings! Lanterns could be beach huts - inflatables - take your skate board and into a windsurfer. When it comes to our beach life and sports we have so much to showcase lets get that down in pictures and show the world! Smugglers This part of the parade will many be strikingly dark with sparkly lanterns. It will have an air of magic and secrecy and will stand out from the other sections of the parade. We have a history smothered in rebellion and smuggling! Get out your dark clothes make a smuggler lantern and join us. ******* PLEASE LEAVE ALL DODGY CONTRABAND AT HOME THOUGH!!!***** Make tea chests and wool rolls, smugglers boats and wear dark clothing and join the smuggler section of our historic parade. Sea monsters The knuckers and sea monsters have been woven through our sea based communities since human settled on the coast of England. Dress like a sea monster and bring your sea monster lantern to the event. Fish with googley wobbly eyes... creatures with webbed feet and gills. Let your scary side lose with this section of the parade! This theme is a deliberate choice. The videos and photos from this parade will be around for a long time and reach as far as canada. Lets showcase Adur in a beautiful and exciting way. The council want to put Adur on the cultural map, We can do that with one parade! On the entertainment field (Monks Rec) you can have a space to put out info on your group etc and showcase your group before the parade kicks off. LETS DO IT!!!!
