LETTER TO THE EDITOR; Double Standards? by "Anonymous" How many of you have had a speeding ticket before? Odds are, if you drive a car, you have. How about weaving in and out of traffic and tailgating, because your in a hurry or frustrated? You guessed it......we are all guilty of those at one time or another. Now let me ask this. How many have you seen the State, County, and City Police do the same thing? I am talking about when they have no lights or sirens going and there is absolutely no visible or audible reason for the way they are driving? What could be so important that they need to do the very same thing they give the rest of us tickets for? My favorite is the time I stopped for a pedestrian in the cross walk and the officer behind me threw up his hands in disgust, hit the gas and sped around me in the left lane while the pedestrian paused in front of my vehicle to avoid being hit by the patrol car. They like to tell us that we are endangering other drivers and pedestrians when we do stuff like that, which is true, but why is it that they are not? Little bit of a double standard don’t you think? This may sound trivial to many, but I can’t help but think, “If there is any hint of thinking they are above the law, then what else is going on?” That my friends, is content for another article. I know law enforcement takes defensive driver training, but no matter how good you are, there is no way to anticipate the actions of the other driver. I for one am thinking of writing the time, date, and license number of the police vehicle next time I see one and posting it to CCN. I am not a police hater and I know there are good officers out there, but I have to admit respect for coos county officials (with or without a badge) seems to be waning in this county. From what I have seen and personally experienced, it is by their own actions that has caused the doubts about their credibility among the citizens. This also brings me next to my next question. How come we never heard the outcome (that I know of) of the head on collision between the Coos County Sheriffs patrol car and a Citizen awhile back? It was in The World and then seems to have vanished. I tried a search and couldn’t seem to find the story. If anybody knows the outcome or where the story or any follow up may be, I would be interested in seeing it. Please understand I am not trying to stir up trouble or start a revolution, but there seems to be a lack of accountability in this County and we citizens have a right to question the authority over us. Furthermore, they have a duty to answer concerns of the citizens as well. I know I am not the only one that sees the shady happenings around here and I am tired of sitting back and keeping my mouth shut. #CoosComNews
