LEWISTON, ID - Lewiston Police responded to the 1100 block of 18th Avenue at about noon today for a report of a blasting cap found near a residence. According to a press release, officials confirmed that it was a live electric blasting cap and the Spokane Explosives Disposal Unit was dispatched. At approximately 4 pm, the blasting cap was safely and successfully detonated a short distance from where it has been originally located, Cpl. Phil Campbell says in the press release. At this time, it is unknown how the blasting cap ended up at this location. Citizens are advised that if they discover any items that they believe are potentially dangerous such as explosives, blasting caps, or other items, to leave the item alone and to contact the Lewiston Police Department immediately, Campbell says.
