LHR T2 designed for passengers The new Terminal 2 at Heathrow will open its doors on June 4 2014, serving 23 Star Alliance airlines as well as Aer Lingus and Germanwings carriers. Expected to be used by 20 million passengers a year, the new terminal forms part of Heathrow’s ongoing transformation. It will be the first time that all Star Alliance member airlines will be under one roof, allowing them to offer shorter connecting times between member airlines. Mark Schwab, ceo for Star Alliance says: “Our 23 member carriers at Heathrow generate more than 20% of the airport’s overall traffic. Hence, it is only logical that we actively participate in the Terminal 2 project, which will become our home at Heathrow.” Terminal 2 will feature four check-in zones (A, B, C and D). Each zone caters for a certain group of airlines and will include plenty of signage on the departure level for passengers. Heathrow development director John Hollard-Kaye says; “The new Terminal 2 has been designed around the needs of our passengers, to allow them to get to and from their flights as quickly as possible. Like Terminal 5, it will promise world-class customer service and a warm welcome to Britain, which visitors expect from the UK’s hub airport.” No daily operations are expected to be disrupted by the construction of Terminal 2. - TNW
