LISMORE BUSINESS PANEL ********** PLEASE NOTE I have applied for a seat on this Panel. ********** Nominations for the Lismore Business Panel (LBP) closed a few weeks ago and the selection committee met late last week. The wait is now on to see who will be recommended to take up the seats on what is considered to be one of the most important Panels affecting local businesses in Lismore and possibly the most controversial in recent years. The LBP controls the expenditure of hundreds of thousands of dollars levied against local businesses each year. Its purpose is to bring more people to the CBD and to improve safety and general conditions. This is facilitated through a City Centre Manager. There has been considerable concern expressed by numerous business operators about the poor performance of the CBD and the failure of the LBP to help remedy this situation. Some very big names, such as the Lismore Chamber of Commerce and Lismore Square, have dropped out. A restructure has seen the Squares seat cancelled but the Chambers seat remaining open. A seat has been gifted to a ladies social group called The Stella Network because it was believed there were not enough women on the Panel. The remaining seats are made up of one Councillor, currently the Country Labor Partys Councillor Isaac Smith, two representatives from businesses outside the main CBD and three from inside. Whatever the result of the nomination process, decisions and commentary from all open public meetings will be published to ensure everyone is kept informed and that those deciding on the expenditure of so much public money will be held accountable for their decisions. ********** PLEASE NOTE I have applied for a seat on this Panel. ********** #LismoreRadio #LismoreBusinessPanel #Lismore
