LITURGY SPOTLIGHT - Ronald Ossovicki LENT- You will notice a change in the atmosphere during Lent. The “Alleluia” is not used during Lent without exception. Flowers are not used except on solemnities and the Fourth Sunday of Lent. The organ is minimally used. The festive “Gloria” is omitted. The Liturgical color for this season is violet. Violet represents a time of penance. Some recommendations for this season include: Try to attend weekday Mass and/or the Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. That is what is minimally expected of a Roman Catholic. But all of Lent remains a “closed season,” a time for the renewal of the yearlong disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Prayer materials are available in the pamphlet rack.
