LIVE UPDATE: Tight security at UM gates KUALA LUMPUR: Univeristi Malaya (UM) gates are tightly monitored by guards with everyone, regardless students or staff being questioned comprehensively before permitting entry. UM security guards together with two upper management members stand guard at the university’s Kuala Lumpur gate since 6pm today in preparations for the 40 years: From UM to Jail event. Students and staff alike are made to show their UM identification card, while those who fail to do so are sent away. The guards have also notified those who leave the campus grounds will not be allowed back in. As of 7.55pm, many people, especially youth have begin to gather in front of the gate. PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to arrive at 9pm to deliver his speech at the event. The rain has started to pour as the crowd gather around a PKR vehicle. The Toyota Hylux plastered with PKR posters arrived around 7.55pm, believed to be the vehicle carrying the sound system. Few protestors are also seen carrying signage with words in reference to justice and revolution. People were given instructions to move further from the gate waiting for Anwar’s arrival.
