LOOK FOR THE MOON ON WED., AUG. 7TH (EID TO BE ON AUG. 8TH OR 9TH) crescentwatch.org/ Crescentwatch.org encourages everyone to go out to look for the new crescent moon (hilal) on the evenings of August 7th and 8th in anticipation of the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal and the advent of Eid al-Fitr. Qualified Muslim astronomers and reliable visibility forecasts indicate that on Wednesday, August 7th, the only regions of the globe that will have a decent likelihood of a naked-eye (unaided) sighting of the new moon are in South America and the South Pacific. If the moon is sighted on Aug. 7th, Eid al-Fitr would occur on Thursday, Aug. 8th. Otherwise, Eid will fall on Friday, Aug. 9th. Please go out to look for the new crescent moon and submit your moonsighting report with us. The crescent (hilal) would be visible shortly after sunset, slightly to the left, and above where the sun had set. It is a beautiful experience to sight its emergence, and it is a sunnah of our noble Prophet, sal Allahu alayhi wa salam, that we hope the ummah revives. crescentwatch.org/cgi-bin/cw.cgi
