Online Writer (1 year mat leave contract) Kidscreen kidscreen Location: Toronto, Ontario Kidscreen magazine is looking for an experienced and hard-working full-time online writer. Along with shepherding our newsletter Kidscreen Daily, you’ll also act as the lead on our digital media-focused newsletter iKids Weekly. Kidscreen is the leading international magazine about the business of kids entertainment, covering the sectors of TV and film production, programming and distribution, licensing, retail and marketing. Spin-off iKids Weekly focuses on all aspects of the children’s interactive entertainment industry, including mobile and console gaming, social networking and websites/virtual worlds. Qualifications: • two to four years experience working in a writing or editing position at a magazine or newspaper with documented experience working in an editorial capacity • strong time management and organizational skills, as well as experience with high-volume editorial output • a business-writing background • knowledge of online content management systems and use of social media • certificate or degree in journalism/communications • experience and comfort with establishing and maintaining key editorial relationships with executive-level contacts • demonstrated ability to independently manage a beat, with responsibility for generating story ideas, research, writing/assigning and editing/proofing • a “team player” attitude and a high degree of comfort with working on a small editorial team • a demonstrated interest in the world of digital media, including gaming, apps and social networking • ability to travel • a fun and clever editorial voice • a love of kids entertainment is a plus How to apply: Email a resumé and clippings that showcase your business writing experience (short news pieces, special report features, editorials).
