LOVE EPISTLE Servanthood For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more (1 Cor 9:19) First of all its clear from this verse that Paul is not put in subjection to any man but gives himself to mens needs and to their service. Servanthood is a spirit and not merely what is done. It is a willingness to serve and honour others even above yourself because the Love of God in you impels you to do so. Servanthood does not make you come down in your ranks —and if anything, it shows how you are well established and understand your rank. Jesus washes the desciples feet not because they are better than Him but because He wants them to learn of this spirit. People who know their identity [rank, purpose and assignment ] have no problem putting themselves in subjection to another man especially for the sake of the Gospel. Matt 23: 11 says: But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. It doesnt mean that one serves to become the greatest but rather, the understanding that you are the greatest makes you become a servant to others.
