The opportunity We are looking for a Laboratory Crew Leader, based at our bauxite site, Weipa to supervise the Bauxite laboratory that supports the exploration, mining and shipping operations across the Weipa site. Located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria, Weipa is owned and operated by Rio Tinto Alcan. Residentially based in Weipa with 4 days on and 4 off day shift roster and reporting to the Superintendent Operations Support, you will be: •Supervising a small laboratory team •Leading, mentoring and training the crew of laboratory analysts •Undertaking sample preparation and analysis •Providing technical support for Resource Geology, Mine Planning, Production and Commercial teams •Undertaking trouble shooting of processes and equipment’s •Looking after the operation of equipments like Panalytical X-ray Fluorescence (XRF systems), LECO Thermo Gravimetric (TGA) furnaces, auto fusion bead casters, caustic bomb digestion units, Rocklabs sample preparation equipment, CCLAS Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) What you will need for this role To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have: •A relevant qualification in Chemistry or similar field •Experience with laboratory operations in a mining environment •Prior experience in leading small teams Prior experience of working with equipment’s like Panalytical XRF systems, LECO TGA furnaces, auto fusion bead casters, caustic bomb digestion units, Rocklabs sample preparation equipment and CCLAS LIMS will be desirable.
