Labour ka twafay translates to be labour is working is the labour - TopicsExpress

Labour ka twafay translates to be labour is working is the labour party campaign theme for the upcoming general elections. My question tonight is, who is labour working for? The health care needs of a nation has to be one of the highest priorities of any caring and hard working government. A government that works for its people and understand that its people are the most important asset of the country. After 15 years in office, the labour party has failed to address or in some cases abandon the health care needs of the people of Dominica. Below are some facts to consider: 1.In year 2000, there were three hospitals on the island of Dominica. 2. In year 2014, one of the hospitals is currently closed due to rodent infestation. 3. Another hospital (Portsmouth) is in very very poor condition 4. The princess Magaret hospital, the main hospital is in need of basic medical supplies such as sutures, antibiotics, and pain killers. Equipment in the neonatal department is worst than that of rat lab. We live in an era where there are regular outbreaks of viruses and diseases. Most recently we heard about EBOLA and thank God Dominica was speared however we were not speared and had first hand experience with chikungunya, a virus spread by mosquitoes, which to this day, the department of health still has no control over. The WHO is predicting more outbreaks in the coming years. All different cancers have risen in recent times in Dominica, however, there are no proper equipment to detect and diagnose the illness while still in it early stages where survival is the greatest. Therefore, after taking a closer look at the health care delivery system in Dominica, I understand why the Prime Minister would find it not suitable for his wife to deliver their baby boy at any of the hospitals, However, what are the options of the average Dominican? Where do they deliver their babies? Where do they turn for health care? I ask again, who is Labour working for?
