Lady Cougars crush #1-ranked White County 78-53 to advance to tournament championship Despite losing their leading scorer to fouls early in the fourth period, the Dickson County Lady Cougars beat what many polls list as the top team in Class AAA by 25 points Friday in the semifinal of the Smoky Mountain Classic Christmas Tournament in Gatlinburg. Dickson County handed White County its first loss of the season 78-53. The Lady Cougars improve to 11-0 and will play in the blue bracket championship game Saturday at 6 pm Central. All five Lady Cougar starters finished in double digits and LeaLea Carter recorded a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds as DCHS controlled the boards 38-26. Dickson County lost Emily Beard, the only player to score in double figures every game this season, to fouls with over six minutes left in the game. Despite playing without their leading scorer, the Lady Cougars finished on a 14-2 run and shot just under 50 percent from the floor while hitting 26 of 31 free throws. The Warriorettes lost four players to fouls before the final buzzer. Dickson County was in control from the beginning leading 17-9 after the first period and 37-24 at intermission as six players had four points or more. A Beard steal and layup late in the third period pushed the margin past 20 points at 49-28. White County cut the difference to 13 points before Dickson County went on the 14-2 run to close the 25-point win. Behind Carters 19, Beard had 15 despite her early exit. Lainey Reed finished with 12, Carlee Wilson had 11 and Payton Grove added 10. Dickson County will play for the championship of the blue bracket at 6 pm Central Saturday at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. They will face the winner of Friday nights semfinal between Sycamore and the host Lady Highlanders. Coverage on the RFC Sports Network begins at 5:45.
