Heres a short excerpt from the subject The Spirit of the Catalyst One of the great arguments going in ministry today is the debate on whether Pastors have a need for armor-bearers and whether this is an actual office in the church. In a recent article published by Christianpost, a Florida Pastor made a solid public case for why he thought “armor-bearers” were not biblical positions in the new- testament church. Even as a young man who has served in the position for a number of years and assisted a number of leaders, I have to admit that this argument carries a lot of weight. David’s service to Saul in the book of 1 Samuel is the final reference to the term “armor-bearer” in the bible, and of course that was in the old testament. While there is a solid debate that armor-bearers may not be a biblical office in the new-testament church, I will make the very STRONG case that the traits and characteristics that some of the old-testament armor-bearers demonstrated are very important to those that serve in the kingdom today. And I’m not just talking about elders and deacons. I’m referring to the ENTIRE body. Characteristics such as humility, boldness, obedience, and loyalty are not only imperative to the advancement of the kingdom but also a tremendous encouragement to Pastoral leadership. In this age of ministry, I’m discovering that one of the great desires of Pastors and ministry leaders is to cast a clear vision so that those who have been called to serve can catch it, run with it, and effectively communicate it to those around them with a spirit of excellence. No leader can be successful without the faithful and consistent commitment of servants. Some call these individuals vision runners. Others may call them volunteers or help meets.
