Lakeview Students College and Career Ready Through Personalized Goal-Setting~ College and career readiness, is a district and school student goal, designed to prepare each student for their future. Aligned with this goal, is our focused effort to help your child reach the district’s reading and math benchmarks - every year. This year in particular, our staff are helping your child pinpoint their individual next-steps for learning in both reading and math and making this visible. Educational researchers, Rick Stiggins, Bob Marzano and John Hattie, have surfaced that goal setting, coupled with timely and specific feedback, promotes higher achievement for students. Educational researcher Robert Marzanno emphasizes, that student goals need to be... “created within the developmental reach of the students who are to master them.” Attached is a visual example of how our 1st grade classrooms are helping our students set their goals. Each clothespin has a student’s name on it which is in turn clipped to a specific learning target (on the center of each red plate). These targets are the stepping stones to meeting the math standard in the center! This is an example of personalized goal setting.
