Lakewood Police Stopped Ed FitzGerald and a Passenger During His Tenure as Mayor After a Call for a Suspicious Vehicle; By Vince Grzegorek on Thu, Oct 30, 2014 While he was mayor of Lakewood, Ed FitzGerald was the subject of a call for a suspicious vehicle to the Lakewood police department. Lakewood police chief Timothy Malley confirmed the incident today to Scene, though he said a search of public records yielded no specific reports and that a conversation with the officer involved yielded little specific information, including a time and day, other than confirmation that it occurred sometime after midnight. A source who tipped Scene to the incident couldnt pin down an exact date or time either. What little Chief Malley could share via the officer involved is this: A call for a suspicious vehicle in the west lot of the city hall parking lot came in, Malley said. The officer does not remember a month or year, but said after he pulled up behind the vehicle, Ed FitzGerald exited the car and approached the officer. There was a passenger in the car, but the officer did not speak to that person. FitzGerald told the officer he was working late and on his way home. **Chief Malley **declined to have the officer speak directly to Scene.** Public records show the officer involved worked the 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift during the years in question.** **FitzGerald campaign spokeswoman Lauren Hitt told Scene we have no comment, citing the lack of a police report or any public records.** Ed FitzGerald was also involved in another well-reported 2012 incident of a late-night stop at 4:30 a.m. in Westlake by police after a 911 call for a suspicious vehicle. His passenger at that time was a member from an Irish delegation visiting Cleveland. FitzGerald had said the duo was stopped while trying to reconnect with a second car of people from the Irish delegation.
