Land Dispute Claims Life, Gurjars Block Highway at KATHUA: Kathua: A man, who was allegedly attacked by some persons over a land dispute in Kathua district last month, succumbed to his injuries in a Ludhiana hospital, triggering protests by Gurjars, who blocked the Jammu- Pathankot Highway on Wednesday. Mubarak Ali was attacked by a sharp-edged weapon at Chak Sajan area of Kathua district on May 17, following which he was seriously injured and admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana, where he died last night, police said. Alis body was brought back to his native place triggering protests by Gurjar community members against the state government and police for failing to arrest the culprits. The protesters blocked the highway demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the attack on Ali. Senior police and civil administration officers rushed to the spot and controlled the situation after promising the protesters to setup a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. Following an assurance by the authorities, the agitating Gurjars dispersed from the spot and lifted the blockade. Tension had erupted between two sections who staked claim on a disputed piece of land in the village, which was illegally occupied by Gurjars, officials said.
