Langham Place Hotel to debut new bar and lounge, Alibi - Wine Dine Be Social, mid December Modern lifestyle hotel, Langham Place, Mongkok, Hong Kong will be unveiling a new bar and lounge with the opening of its new venture, Alibi – Wine Dine Be Social, in mid December, adding to its spectrum of restaurants and bars. Located on the fifth floor of the hotel, which previously housed Portal – Work & Play, the 5,500 square foot newly refurbished, urban chic space will present all that a bar should have and a little more, as well as be true to its namesake – a place to escape, wine, dine and be social. Homegrown talent, a wine wall, award-winning mixology and creative cuisine will make up the spacious and vibrant venue, styled by Stickman Design of Dubai and Hong Kong. Led by Alan Tsui, Manager & Wine Guy, Zachary Yu, Creative Consultant and Leo Cheung, Mixologist, Alibi will further elevate the engaging food and wine pairing artistry set by the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Ming Court, and Japanese restaurant Tokoro – Robatayaki & Sushi Bar. At 140 seats, Alibi will offer a sophisticated evolution on the concept of visually exciting shared plates using homegrown, homemade and imported quality ingredients for each dish, with culinary influences from Europe and Asia. On the menu will be Manchego Bomba Rice Fritters, Kim Chi Toasties and Bruschetta Lardo di Colonnata finished with honey, thyme and truffle, with pairing recommendations by the bar’s beverage talent. At the helm of Alibi’s kitchen and food creative is Kiwi Chef de Cuisine, Tim Bruges, who developed his passion for creative small plates at The Providores and Tapa Room in London, and more recently as Executive Sous Chef at one of the city’s tapas bars, 22 Ships. Prior to that, Tim worked with Michelin-starred Hong Kong restaurants, 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo and Cépage and internationally, on super yachts across the Mediterranean. “The city’s dining scene has really evolved over the years. Nowadays, we long to share our good times through social platforms with friends all over the world and we’ve created new social groups for ourselves by following and sharing new experiences. Alibi will have a social vibe about it and we hope our guests instagram dishes and cocktails that they’re tasting here, tweet their experiences and upload photos of the good times they’re having here. These days, it’s all about posting our whereabouts and showcasing what we’re eating, instantly. At Alibi, we in turn will socially connect with our guests, not only tell them about our next happy hour promotion,” says Shaun Campbell, general manager of Langham Place, Mongkok, Hong Kong. “The buzz out here in Mongkok is eclectic – we’ve had some fantastic firsts here with our wine and dine scene through The Backyard, Ming Court and Tokoro, and have developed a range of loyal patrons who after 10 years, keep coming back. We hope our Alibi guests find it worth the journey to Mongkok, and want to return to Alibi again and again.” Unique to Kowloon, Alibi will also offer multi-dimensional experiences above the bustle of the city including coffee artistry, wine tastings, mixology art and social and lifestyle partners will be invited for social nights. Alibi’s design features will include an earthy-chic, rustic yet refined interior, shades of nut, oak, grey and steel against pops of teal and lime, contemporary fireplaces and pendant lights over its long bar. Alibi will also be a place for pre-dinner aperitifs - warm and relaxed by day, cool and energetic by night. A semi-private area next to the floor-to-ceiling wine wall will also welcome private events and tastings for up to 30 guests. Alibi – Wine Dine Be Social will be open in mid December 2014 serving lunch, afternoon tea, a raw bar, drinks and dinner. Opening hours will be from 8:00am to 1:00am from Monday to Thursday and 8:00am to 2:00am from Friday to Sunday and on public holiday eves. More information on the new opening will be available at hongkong.langhamplacehotels.
