Large field of candidates to contest seats at local elections A larger field of candidates will contest seats in this year’s Far North District Council elections on 12 October than at the last elections in 2010. Nominees for the mayoralty, council and community boards numbered 77 when the deadline for nominations passed at midday on Friday, compared with 59 at the last triennial elections. There were: - Seven candidates for the mayoralty, compared with four in 2010 - 33 nominees for nine seats on Council, compared with 27 in 2010 - 37 nominees for 19 community board seats, compared with 28 in 2010 - Only four community board members elected unopposed, compared with seven members in 2010. Voting documents will be posted to people, who were correctly enrolled before the deadline on 16 August, from 20-25 September. These must be returned in the Freepost envelope provided so the Electoral Officer receives them by noon on 12 October. People who weren’t correctly enrolled before 16 August can request special voting papers by phoning the Council’s Electoral Officer Dale Ofsoske on FREEPHONE 0800 922 822.
