Largest multiple killing in Edmonton History Nine people found dead at three linked crime scenes December 30, 2014 Edmonton police are investigating multiple homicides in Edmonton that are said to be linked. Word is that seven people were found dead at a north Edmonton scene, a home near 83rd Street and 180th Avenue. Officers were called out at around 8:30pm Monday. EPS would not officially confirm the number of victims, only saying that there is “more than one death.” Another victim was found in southwest Edmonton Monday night. A woman in her 30s or early 40s was found in a home near Haswell Court and 16th Avenue. The third crime scene is at a Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Fort Saskatchewan, the site of a “police incident” Tuesday morning. Moe Assiff saw a very distraught mother last night amid all the commotion after she was told something by police. “Immediately that lady just let out a hysterical scream, eerie, unmistakable scream, she was screaming out about here kids just screaming and grabbing her hair and whatnot and cops ushered her out into a police cruiser” says Assiff. Assiff talks about the neighbourhood saying “There’s probably about 20 or 30 kids around here, it’s a very close, new community but kids are free to roam on the street, some kids were seen playing outside everyday in the summertime from dusk till dawn, all they did was play around on their bikes and do what kids do” Fort Saskatchewan Mayor Gale Katchur was kept informed about what was going on, and how police had to keep a media blackout of the incident out of concern for the first responders who were on the scene. “They had the street contained that they needed to and they were just turning people away from downtown Fort Saskatchewan so the RCMP have done an excellent job, it would have been nice if we could have provided more information but it’s very critical that we keep people safe in the imminent area” says Katchur. Katchur, who can see the VN restaurant from her office window, says 100 Ave. and 103 St. remain closed. She says the glass doors and windows have been smashed. Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht will be briefing the media on the deaths Tuesday afternoon at 3pm.
