Larrys Birthday Rant: I have always seen a birthday as a blue milestone in which each stone has an inscription which is a combination of words of encouragement and a list of achievements that occurred within the 365 1/4 day period. When I was in the US attending University, my cycling coach used to tell us always use the milestone as a marker to motivate us during the ride, and do this for the duration of the ride. But many people celebrate their birthdays differently; some with excessive partying and spending, some with quiet time with their family. I always see this as a moment of reflection. 2014 has been somewhat of a turbulent period for me and it has opened my eyes to even more things; the value of family, health, ones career, and above all how fragile life is. My advice to myself is to remove those from your life who add no value and to hold close those who do. To all of us, enjoy life-for in these times it is indeed short; establish a work-life balance; stay closer to God, and appreciate everything that nature has provided. Thanks to everyone for their birthday wishes, and remember that I still love cheese cake. A cyclist has to eat right?
