Last Friday, I took Cindy to the emergency room at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa AZ. her complaint was severe pain behind her left eye. This is the same hospital Kelly and I took Cindy to back in 5-22-2011. This is the hospital that transferred Cindy without her cloths, ID, cell phone and book of doctors to Valley Mental Hospital in phoenix. Cindy spent 10 days at Valley Mental Hospital and was not medicated correctly so when she got out she was still symptomatic. It took almost a year to get her to go back in for treatment at a hospital that looked at her background of stabile on medication and responded correctly. At the emergency room I declared that Cindy was not treated correctly previously and gave a brief history of what happened. This put Cindy on a fast track program to treat her. I did get off the cuff remarks by the doctor, when I informed him that Cindy had a rare disease call in short VHL. The doctor informed me that he new how to do CT scans. When the labs came back, it indicated a dangerously low level of Salt. Cindy was immediately sent to ICU where she stayed a few day to recover. After Cindy was released, we went back to Banner Desert Medical Center and went to the customer service department to elaborate on the experience in 2011. Today I got a phone call informing us that they will officially investigate what happened. This could involve multiple hospitals that Cindy went to after Valley mental hospital discharged her. Why is this important. After this terrible year of trying to get Cindy help. we found that Cindy has Stage 3 kidney failure and that all 4 of these hospitals gave Cindy CT scans with contrast. The contrast used in the CT scans is a no no for people in kidney failure. Additionally no attempt to find if there is a specific way to do a CT scans for VHL patients. The NIH and the VHL family alliance publish these specifications online. This might be a time where the family could take a moment and help me to get this story out.
