Last Friday one of our staff members went to Snowdonia with nearly 40 Scouts from North London, Southwark and Oxford for a long weekend of scrambling, climbing and bouldering: There was a lot of enthusiasm in the group to get to the top of Snowdon so on Day 1 we split into three groups, one of which walked over Crib Goch to Snowdon summit, descending via the Pyg Track. The other two groups ascended via the Pyg Track and came down the Miners Track. On day two my group took it a bit more easy with a short hike before going bouldering at the National Mountain Sports Centre: Plas Y Brenin. Everyone else fancied another hike and did one of the most classic Snowdonia routes: walking from where we were staying at Idwal Cottage up and over Tryfan and the Glyders before coming down Devils Kitchen. They got a lot of rain and wind but everyone had a great time! That evening we all visited the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Centre and learnt about what kit they use, how heavy a person on a stretcher feels after 100yards and all about how they use phone signals to pinpoint your location. It was really fascinating - those guys are heroes! On day 3 four of us went on a bit of an adventure and climbed up the Idwal Slabs, incorporating a slightly unplanned ghyll scramble into our descent. Everyone else took it easy after their adventure on the Glyders and had a kit talk and a quiz before we all drove home thoroughly exhausted. Enjoy the photos everyone!
