Last Friday, several Evergreen Avenue School students took time from their holiday weekend to help celebrate Memorial Day with veterans who are residents of the Woodbury Mews. Mrs. Mills, school nurse, was contacted by the Mews because of her community service involvement with the memory care unit. The students read from the book “America’s White Table.” A quote from the book -- “we salute these bravest of our brave with the POW flag motto: YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN so long as there is one left in whom your memory remains. The White Table is set in many mess halls as a symbol for and remembrance to service members fallen, missing, or held captive in the line of duty. Solitary and solemn, it is the table where no one will ever sit...” The students had the opportunity to speak to the veterans while being treated to lunch. A big “Thank You” goes out to all veterans who have served in the armed services. Thank you also to the parents who joined the event with their students: 6th grade Woodbury Junior High student, Ian McKenna; and 5th grade Evergreen Avenue School students Colin McKenna, Todd Hayes, and Gavin Ashworth.
