Last Saturday I was unloading my music gear after playing a gig, - TopicsExpress

Last Saturday I was unloading my music gear after playing a gig, and my neighbor had the garage door open and the radio playing. Nothing unusual about that, lots of us have the radio playing out of our open garage on Saturday afternoon. But what caught my attention was a song that was playing... the lyrics said I like us better when were wasted. I was really struck by this. It was just so sad and pathetic. Just another sign of the times. Another evidence of how sick, warped, lost and broken our culture has become. It made me think of the huge contrast between that dismal product of a constipated soulless synthetic muzak business and the music that we had just finished playing, both my band Crimson Blues and also our friends the M24 Bluez Band. I truly dont mean to sound boasting, but the Christian Blues music we played was raw, passionate, organic, and REAL. No drum machines, no auto-tune to make bad voices sound better. Just smokin hot blues being sung in the name of Jesus. I was reminded yet again how grateful I am for what I get to do. I get to play the KIND of music I love, AND I get to play it with such excellent musicians, AND I can play this music with ETERNAL SIGNIFICANCE because we have played it in the Name of Jesus and FOR HIM. The value and meaning of this music really will last forever. People always say such and such artists music is timeless and will last forever but really that is a patitude. All human endeavors fade away eventually. But this music that we love, when laid down at the foot of the cross, really DOES have eternal value and impact. This Saturday we get to do it again. This really means a lot to me. As a kid, before Christian Rock came around, I had thought you had to play lame dull sucky music to please God, cuz at the time that was the only religious music I was aware of. How awesome that such an idea turned out to be false. I am so privileged to be able to serve God by playing music that REALLY BRINGS PASSION to my heart. Turns out God really does satisfy the yearings of our hearts.
