Last Thursday at the Boao Forum for Asia’s Annual Conference, joining a panel of seven civic leaders from around the world on a discussion regarding “The Urbanization of People.” Discussed clean energy policies that replaced dirty diesel public transit buses, refuse trucks, and school buses to clean-burning natural gas (CNG), to reduce air pollution. The Conference’s theme this year was, “Asia’s New Future: Identifying New Growth Drivers.” Many high-profile guests were attendance, including Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, as well as the Prime Ministers of Australia, South Korea, Laos, Namibia, Pakistan, and Timor-Leste. The urbanization panel, moderated by CCTV news anchor and director Rui Chenggang, featured elected officials and business leaders including Beijing Vice Mayor Chen Gang, Bloomberg L.P. CEO and former New York City Deputy Mayor Daniel L. Doctoroff, SOHO China LTD. Executive Chairman Pan Shiyi, India Planning Commissioner Arun Maira, MTR Corporation of Hong Kong CEO Jay Walder, and Hainan Provincial Vice Governor Wang Lu. The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) is a nongovernmental and nonprofit international organization founded in 2001, with Asia’s rapidly developing economy as its backdrop. Today, it has become the leading platform for substantive dialogue between civic, business, industrial, and academic leaders concerned with the further economic development and integration between its member countries and other parts of the world.
