Last Wednesday was Dylans 1 year diagnosis anniversary. Dylan went to school and told me he shared with his teacher what that that day was. His teacher asked if he wanted to share with the class. To my surprise, he told me that he got up in front of the class during special announcements and with a drumroll from the class he shared Today is my 1 year anniversary that I was diagnosed with cancer... And in true 2nd grade style his teacher let them celebrate with a starburst that Dylan was so excited about since he cant have sugar at home- he got 2 and everyone else got 1....it was like he won the lottery!! I text his teacher later that day to thank her for making his special day that much more special... And she replied I was a little overcome when I was telling the class, he is an amazing kid. He really is!! His courage and resilience is something that you cant teach but only pray you have and my son has it! We celebrated later that day with a pizza party and games. Thursday we went to the Fair courtesy of The Let It Be Foundation. Thank you so much Let It Be!! Dylan had such an awesome night and I found myself getting emotional seeing him so happy because a year ago that exact moment he was in a hospital bed, told at the age of 6- he had cancer. His battle isnt over but reaching a year post diagnosis was a milestone that we were looking forward to and really spent time enjoying and celebrating Dylans health! A road less traveled by most but 365 days later- his smile still lights up a room and his courage is inspirational to others! What a blessing!
